A proud Emirati, Mohi-Din BinHendi is a successful entrepreneur, investor, and owner of one of the first retail conglomerates in the UAE.

Early in his career, in June 1979, Mohi-Din BinHendi was appointed Director General of the Department of Civil Aviation by special decree issued by the Ruler of Dubai, having previously served as Director of Airport Customs. Mr. BinHendi, together with Sheikh Ahmed Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Civil Aviation, was responsible for the development of Dubai International Airport into the Middle East’s busiest air terminal, the award-winning Dubai Duty Free Complex, the New Arrivals Terminal, the Aviation Club, the Aviation College and the Dubai Air Cargo Terminal.

He has been elected Chairman of the Retail Group under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. He was also a Member of the Board of Governors at Dubai Aviation College, a Member of the Board of Directors at Emirates Golf Club and Chairman of the Aviation Advisory Committee at Dubai Men’s College. Gulf Business Awards elected him ‘1994 Gulf Chief Executive of the Year’ for his efforts not only for Dubai International Airport, but in the whole field of civil aviation.

Mr. BinHendi was accorded the ‘Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria’ by the Austrian President in January 1995. In January 1996, he was conferred the ‘Honour of the Order of Merit of the Republic’ with the title ‘Cavalière’ by the President of the Republic of Italy for the promotion and strengthening of cultural and commercial links between Italy and the UAE.

Apart from Mr. BinHendi’s investments in retail, trading, furniture, property and other sectors, he has expanded into hospitality and developed his own concepts. Mr. BinHendi has also branched out into franchising. With his guidance BinHendi became one of the first UAE-based groups to franchise its own locally-born brands.
